BYD to launch Dolphin EV in South Korea in H1 2026, around 20 million won
BYD is preparing to roll out its Dolphin electric hatchback in South Korea in the first half of 2026. According to BYD Korea, the opening price is expected to land around 20 million won, or roughly $14,000, essentially mirroring the base model in China.
The company says the Dolphin has already cleared local environmental and noise requirements, and the exact debut date is being aligned with South Korea’s 2026 EV subsidy schedule. Industry watchers expect a launch toward the end of February, a window when government support policies typically become clearer — a pragmatic moment to step into the spotlight.
In terms of positioning, the Dolphin targets direct rivals like the Hyundai Casper EV and Kia Ray EV, speaking to drivers who want a compact city EV without premium price tags. The hardware sticks to what works for the mass market: front-wheel drive and BYD’s Blade LFP battery. In China, versions of roughly 45 and 60 kWh are offered, and fast charging can take the battery from about 30% to 80% in around half an hour. It is a simple, no-drama recipe that tends to matter more in daily use than flashy headlines.
