Alfa Romeo's roadmap: new Stelvio and Giulia, a Tonale successor, and a provocative off-roader concept

Alfa Romeo is preparing to broaden its lineup over the next few years as it aims to cement its position as Stellantis’s only global premium brand. Incoming CEO Antonio Filosa is expected to reaffirm the marque’s central role in the group’s strategy and trail several key launches.

On the product side, new generations of the Stelvio and Giulia are planned for 2027–2028, along with a successor to the Tonale. The Stelvio and Giulia will move to the STLA Large platform, while the next Tonale will switch to STLA Medium. Insiders also suggest a further compact model could slot between the Junior and the future Tonale.

Against this backdrop, an unofficial rendering of an extreme Alfa Romeo off-roader by designer Bruno Callegarin is making the rounds online. The concept imagines a machine built for punishing terrain—an unusual direction for a brand long associated with sharp handling and a sporting temperament. As a design statement it’s striking, though it reads more like a thought experiment than a product hint.

A vehicle of that kind could stir interest in the United States, where radical off-roaders enjoy strong demand. Even so, analysts view such a program as improbable: a niche model would likely struggle beyond North America and run counter to the brand’s global playbook. It’s easier to picture Alfa focusing its resources on core models that define its identity rather than a low-volume rock-crawler.

Still, the concept did its job by drawing attention and underscoring how Alfa Romeo continues to inspire designers and enthusiasts. The brand’s next steps should come into sharper focus in the months ahead, especially with the 2026 high-end SUV space on the horizon. How these moves align will say much about balancing emotional appeal with scale.
