Another wave of recalls is sweeping the U.S. over rearview-camera display glitches. According to NHTSA data, Volkswagen Group of America (including Audi) and Porsche are taking action at the same time: in total, the campaigns cover more than half a million vehicles where a software fault can keep the image from appearing on the screen.

The largest share falls to Volkswagen Group of America, including Audi: 356,649 vehicles are being recalled. The culprit is a software error that can disrupt the rear camera feed. Dealers will install a software update at no charge. The action covers select models from the 2019–2026 model years. It’s a broad span, and for drivers the real headache is simple: when the camera goes blank, low-speed maneuvers stop feeling effortless.

In parallel, Porsche has announced its own sizable recall: a week earlier it said 173,538 vehicles in the U.S. are affected by the same rearview-camera issue. Reuters reports that for Porsche, this ranks among the largest single recalls by Porsche Cars North America in recent years. Seeing both groups move in tandem is a reminder that a small line of code can ripple across massive fleets—and when a fix is available, owners will want it without delay, because backup cameras have become everyday safety tools as much as conveniences.
