Leapmotor D19 large SUV preview: BEV and EREV, up to 720 km range

Leapmotor is preparing to launch its large D19 SUV, with details surfacing in the latest MIIT catalog. The model will be the first production SUV in the D series and is scheduled to reach the market in April 2026. Buyers will be able to choose between a fully electric BEV and an extended-range EREV, a lineup that hints at a broad reach.

Its footprint underscores the segment: 5,252 mm long, 1,995 mm wide, and riding on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. Six- and seven-seat layouts are planned. Curb weight is up to 2.77 tons, and top speed is 180 km/h. The figures point to a spacious, family-first package.

In the EREV, a 1.5-liter engine-generator rated at 95 kW supports two electric motors—100 kW at the front and 200 kW at the rear. The battery capacity is 80.3 kWh, enabling up to 500 km of electric-only driving, a record for China’s EREV segment. On paper, that gives the D19 unusually long zero-emission coverage for daily use.

The BEV variant uses a 115 kWh CATL battery and is rated for up to 720 km of range, placing long-distance travel firmly within reach.

Both versions source batteries from CATL: LFP for the EREV and a combination of LFP and ternary lithium cells for the BEV. Leapmotor has indicated a target price around 300,000 yuan, aiming at shoppers considering premium family electric SUVs. If these specifications carry over in real-world use, the D19 looks poised to be a compelling entry in this space.
