Updated Avatr 12 coupe-crossover adds Huawei lidars and new EREV/BEV options
Avatr has unveiled the updated Avatr 12 coupe-crossover, co-developed with Changan, CATL, and Huawei. The model is undergoing MIIT certification and arrives on the market with a broader range of powertrains, new lidar hardware, and refined aerodynamics. In China’s premium intelligent EV segment, the Avatr 12 emerges as one of the most technology-packed offerings.
Updated design and Huawei lidars
Visually, the Avatr 12 keeps its recognizable silhouette, but the sensor suite takes center stage. The primary lidar has moved to the roof, while two additional units sit in the front fenders. Reworked semi-recessed door handles and new 20- and 21-inch wheels freshen the stance. At the back, the dramatic closed-off view remains, now complemented by a deployable spoiler.
A new spectrum of powertrains
The Avatr 12 lineup now includes an EREV and two BEV variants:
- The EREV pairs a 1.5T generator with two rear electric motors rated at 200 kW each, a 52 kWh LFP battery, and a 261 km WLTC range.
- The dual-motor BEV delivers 251 kW from each rear motor.
- The flagship tri-motor AWD setup combines a 210 kW front unit with two 251 kW motors at the rear. Total output reaches 712 kW (955 hp), among the highest in its class.
Market positioning
The expected price is 300–320 thousand yuan. That places the Avatr 12 in the premium bracket, where it goes up against Nio, Aito, and Zeekr with an emphasis on intelligent driving and high performance.
Takeaway
The updated Avatr 12 reflects the rapid tempo of China’s premium EV scene: more power, more sensors, and greater intelligence. It doubles as a showcase for Huawei and CATL technologies, reinforcing Avatr’s position in the high-tech arena.
