2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA EV named European Car of the Year
At the Brussels Motor Show, the winner of the European Car of the Year award was announced — the all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA 2026. The EV outpaced 34 new models and six other finalists, collecting 320 points from a jury of 60 leading journalists across 23 countries.
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA was recognized for its innovations in design, technology, and efficiency. It is the brand’s first model to debut the MB.OS operating system and the MBUX media suite with AI-infused features.
The electric sedan claims up to 792 km of range (WLTP), placing the CLA at the front of its class for long-haul ability. Thanks to an 800-volt architecture, adding 325 km takes just 10 minutes. Sales in Europe began in the summer of 2025, and the model is already available to order in several countries.
Mercedes-Benz says demand has exceeded forecasts, with production capacity spoken for through the second half of 2026. The timing adds a symbolic note: the company marks 140 years since Karl Benz created the first automobile. In this generation, the CLA comes across not only as a stylish, smart sedan, but as a touchstone among EVs — capable of covering long distances between charges while remaining comfortable and intuitive in daily use.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA reinforces the idea that an electric car can be both stirring and practical. That depth of range, paired with flagship-grade technology, is a strong argument for making the switch to electric power.
