Armored CyberGlass puts Cybertruck 'bulletproof' claims to the test
The saga of Cybertruck’s “bulletproof” windows has a new chapter. A group of Tesla owners decided to finally put the pickup’s glass to the test — with one important caveat.
What actually got shot
The trials didn’t use Tesla’s standard glazing but a set of Armored CyberGlass — third-party ballistic windows engineered specifically for the Cybertruck. The factory side panes were removed and replaced with reinforced, NIJ-certified panels rated to stop handgun rounds.
How the test played out
At the range, they ran a broad lineup of firearms — from 9 mm pistols to rifles and even .50 BMG. The glass webbed with cracks and formed craters, yet it didn’t give way: it stayed seated in the frame and, crucially, still rolled down and back up. That’s a clear contrast to the 2019 stage demo, when Tesla’s “Armor Glass” shattered in dramatic fashion. In practice, the most telling detail here is the retained window function — not flashy, but meaningful.
The limits of the claim
The results look impressive, but they don’t make every Cybertruck bulletproof. Tesla’s stock windows carry no ballistic rating. Real protection comes only with the pricey upgrade, and it runs into the tens of thousands of dollars. The takeaway is straightforward: remarkable resilience, but it’s the aftermarket kit doing the heavy lifting, not the factory setup.
