From Uber robotaxis to Earth: Lucid's roadmap to Level 4 EVs

Lucid plans to turn the self-driving robotaxi technologies it is developing for Uber into the backbone of its future production EVs. The company expects that by 2027 new models will offer advanced automated driving features.

From robotaxis to production models

In partnership with Uber and Nuro, the American brand is preparing to launch fully driverless taxis that will begin operating in California this year. Those same technologies are set to anchor the next generation of the brand’s series-produced electric cars.

A new stage of autonomy

Lucid’s leadership says that over the next year its cars will gain a Level 2++ system, enabling hands-off driving not only on highways but also in urban traffic. By 2028, the company expects to step up to Level 3, and by 2029 to full Level 4, where a driver is no longer required.

Betting on the Earth lineup

The main carrier of these innovations will be a new midsize range provisionally called Earth. It is slated to debut in 2027 and will be designed from the outset to accommodate cameras, radars, and lidars without visual compromises.

Lucid is making a bold wager on autonomy as a defining competitive edge. If it can address reliability and financial challenges in parallel, its robotaxi expertise could be the lever that lifts the brand from a niche footprint toward the mainstream.
