Genesis Magma GT concept debuts as future GT3 contender
Genesis continues to expand its high-performance lineup, spotlighting the Magma GT concept—a vehicle poised to transition the brand from premium design to the competitive world of motorsport.
Key Aspect
The Magma GT debuted at the Magma Program festival in Le Castellet, France, where Genesis also showcased the production GV60 Magma and the G90 Wingback concept. While currently a prototype, this car will form the foundation for a future GT3 class contender. A fully revised version will launch later this year, followed by an appearance at Le Mans, marking the start of its homologation journey.
Technical Details
Genesis chief designer Luc Donckerwolke emphasizes that the Magma GT philosophy focuses not on raw power, but on balance and driver connection. The concept features a stretched roofline, low profile, muscular rear fenders, and Genesis's signature lighting panels. The cockpit is set rearward to optimize weight distribution for track performance.
Aerodynamics are meticulously crafted, with every line serving efficiency while retaining the brand's "Athletic Elegance." The design deliberately avoids excessive aggression—as Donckerwolke notes, the owner of a Magma GT could confidently pull up to the opera.
Future of the Model
The Magma GT is being developed in both road-going and racing configurations. Both versions share an identical body silhouette, but the track variant will include a safety cage and specialized panels. This project evolved from the virtual Vision Gran Turismo program, becoming a real-world testing ground after prototype runs at Bathurst and hill climbs involving André Lotterer and Jacky Ickx, who now serves as a brand consultant.
