BYD extends Blade Battery warranty for electric vehicles in Europe

BYD is strengthening its position in Europe by enhancing warranties on a key component of its electric vehicles—the Blade Battery. The new terms aim to boost customer confidence and demonstrate the real-world durability of LFP batteries.

Key Aspect

All BYD models equipped with the Blade Battery, whether new or already in customers' hands, now come with an 8-year or 250,000-kilometer warranty. This marks a significant improvement over the previous 6-year or 150,000-kilometer coverage and gives BYD a notable edge over competitors. The residual capacity threshold remains at 70%, underscoring the manufacturer's confidence in the stability of its technology.

Technical Details

The Blade Battery is based on LFP chemistry, which offers high thermal resistance, low degradation, and enhanced safety. BYD's internal tests have shown the battery can handle over 3,000 charge-discharge cycles before significant loss—equivalent to a lifespan of around 1.2 million kilometers. It reliably withstands puncture, overheating, and mechanical stress. Its design features long, flat cells arranged transversely within the body's structural frame, which increases rigidity, improves crash protection, and saves up to 50% in volume, thereby expanding cabin space.

Market Significance

BYD's extended warranties bolster the brand's standing in the European market and help counter persistent myths about battery "shortcomings." The move signals BYD's commitment to supporting its vehicles for years to come and showcases its confidence in LFP technology—a key selling point for consumers choosing an electric vehicle.
