Toyota launches Urban Cruiser Ebella electric vehicle in India

Toyota has officially unveiled its first mass-produced electric vehicle in India: the Urban Cruiser Ebella. This new model enters one of the market's most competitive segments and marks a key step in the brand's electrification of its local lineup.

Technical Specs and Range

The Urban Cruiser Ebella comes with two LFP battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The base version delivers 144 horsepower, while the higher-end version offers 174 horsepower, both with the same torque of 189 Nm. The maximum claimed range reaches 543 km on the Indian ARAI cycle, which on paper makes it one of the longest-range models in its class. With the Ebella's launch, Toyota's portfolio in India now covers all major types of powertrains.

Design and Interior

Externally, the electric crossover closely mirrors its sibling, the Maruti e Vitara, differing mainly in lighting details and front bumper styling. Inside, the differences are even smaller. A digital instrument cluster, large central screen, wireless smartphone interfaces, ventilated seats, and ambient lighting form a familiar set of features for the segment. This highlights a focus on proven solutions rather than originality.

Features, Safety, and Strategy

All versions come with seven airbags and disc brakes on all wheels, while top trims offer a Level 2 ADAS suite. Toyota also emphasizes infrastructure and ownership, providing an extended battery warranty, a battery lease program, and a guaranteed buyback. This approach aims to lower barriers for buyers in a price-sensitive market.
