Audi is considering bringing the compact electric hatchback A2 e-tron to the Australian market. A brand representative said the company is evaluating the model as demand for small EVs in the country grows.

The official premiere of the Audi A2 e-tron is expected in the final months of 2026. So far, the manufacturer has only released a teaser. Preliminary information suggests the model will be built on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, shared with the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born.

The MEB architecture supports various batteries and electric motors. For instance, the Volkswagen ID.3 offers battery capacities ranging from 45 to 79 kWh, with a driving range of 330 to 670 km. Power outputs for the ID.3 vary from 110 to 240 kW.

Audi notes growing interest in electrified models that could qualify for tax and leasing incentives in Australia. The company believes a compact EV with modern features could attract new customers to the brand.

The original Audi A2 was produced from 1999 to 2005 and was never sold in Australia. It featured an aluminum body and was known for low fuel consumption, but it never achieved mass-market success. The new A2 e-tron could slot in as Audi's entry-level electric vehicle, targeting buyers who want a small premium car.
