GM files Radiance Lighting and Horizon Display trademarks with USPTO
GM files USPTO trademarks for Radiance Lighting ambient interior control and Horizon Display, signaling a tech push before the 2028 centralized platform.
General Motors has filed a trademark for Radiance Lighting, a name intended for in-cabin ambient lighting systems. The paperwork was submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on December 17, 2025, and is currently under review. The move signals a more deliberate push toward branded interior illumination.
According to the filing, Radiance Lighting is an electronic system that manages ambient interior lighting and the brightness of in-car displays. GM has not specified which models will receive the technology first, leaving room for a flexible rollout across the portfolio.
GM is already investing in interior lighting. Updated 2025 Cadillacs offer expanded ambient-light customization: the Escalade, CT5, Optiq, and the electric Escalade IQ provide up to 126 color options—noticeably more than before. That breadth of choice highlights how prominently personalization now figures in the brand’s cabins.
In parallel, the company filed another trademark—Horizon Display—related to screens and digital cockpits. Taken together, these steps align with GM’s plan to move to a new centralized computing platform scheduled for 2028, which will oversee key vehicle systems, including infotainment and safety. The filings suggest GM is consolidating interior tech under clearer, purpose-built labels ahead of that transition.
