The 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV 3X doesn’t pretend to be modest. It’s rated at 830 hp, claims a sprint to 97 km/h in 3.4 seconds, weighs about 3,930 kg, and carries a six-figure price tag. Yet, as Car and Driver points out, it’s the little touches—not the headline numbers—that make this machine stick in the mind.

First, there’s a dedicated button that drops every window at once, including the glass in the side-hinged rear door—very much in the spirit of classic body-on-frame SUVs. Raising them, however, is a one-by-one affair, which adds a bit of analog charm to the digital wow factor.

Second, the side-hinged rear door itself is power-operated. This hefty barn door can open and close at the press of a button, a genuinely useful aid on steep driveways or when you’re juggling cargo. It’s the kind of convenience feature that quickly becomes second nature.

Third, the Hummer wears three windshield wipers, a rarity driven by its relatively “short” windshield. The arrangement lends a faintly retro vibe, a small visual flourish that gives the front end an identity of its own.

Fourth, the roof embraces a T-top ethos, split into four removable panels—two over the front seats and two above the second row. Pop them off and stow them in the branded bag, and the cabin delivers a full-breeze, open-air feel without resorting to a generic panoramic pane. It’s a clever way to make a behemoth feel breezier.

Fifth, King Crab mode cranks up the rear-axle steering—up to 10 degrees, more than the front—so this huge SUV feels markedly more maneuverable, almost folding itself into tighter turns. There is a trade-off, though: as with towing a Wrangler, the 35-inch spare sits close to the hitch, which often means you’ll need a noticeable drop hitch—up to 8 inches—something worth factoring in before you buy.
