Car color trends in Germany 2025: neutral tones lead as green hits record
Germany's 2025 car color trends: neutral tones lead at 75%, green hits 100,715 registrations (+26.5%) and blue rebounds 16.3%, while red declines overall.
In 2025, Germany’s silver, gray, white, and black cars retained their lead in popularity. Together they accounted for about 75 percent of all new registrations, though their combined share slipped compared with the previous year. The dip came from waning interest in gray and white, while black recorded a slight uptick.
Green cars delivered the most striking growth. For the first time in more than 20 years, registrations cleared the 100,000 mark, reaching 100,715 vehicles. The color’s share is still small at 3.9 percent, yet demand has been rising steadily since 2021, culminating in a 26.5 percent increase for the year.
Among the brighter shades, blue remains the favorite. In 2025 it took 10.2 percent of the market, with registrations up 16.3 percent after a decline a year earlier. Red moved the other way, falling 16.5 percent and nearly matching green in registration volume.
Experts link the dominance of neutral tones to resale value considerations. Even so, shifting preferences suggest showroom newcomers are stepping beyond the traditional palette. The balance points to a cautious market that’s gradually opening the door to more expressive colors without straying far from practicality.
