69 new car debuts in 2025: Chinese marques expand in Europe
An overview of 69 new car launches in 2025, with 24 from Chinese brands. Netherlands data, BYD leading, rising market share and growing European interest.
In 2025, 69 new cars made their debut, with 24 of them—more than a third—coming from Chinese brands. These figures come from an analysis of the year’s launches in the Netherlands. The count includes only models officially unveiled in 2025 and excludes facelifts. Not all newcomers are on sale yet: some, including the Honda Prelude and Polestar 5, will reach dealers after the turn of the year.
In total, 13 Chinese marques rolled out fresh models. The busiest were BYD and Leapmotor, each showing four vehicles. New entries also came from Changan, Hongqi, Lynk & Co, MG, Omoda, Smart, Voyah, Xpeng and others. Volvo and Polestar, despite belonging to the Geely group, were counted here as Swedish brands. The breadth of premieres hints at how assertively these players are carving out space in Europe.
Even with that momentum, their market share remains limited. From January to November 2025, BYD was the best-selling Chinese brand in the Netherlands with 3,773 registrations and a 1.10 percent share, followed by Lynk & Co and Leapmotor. The numbers still trail several traditional marques, yet analysts point to a steady rise in European interest in Chinese models in recent years. In this case, the trajectory looks more telling than the snapshot.
