Tesla is expanding its Model Y lineup in Malaysia with the introduction of a new Long Range RWD variant. This version offers the longest range in the crossover series, delivering up to 661 km on the WLTP cycle at a price of RM216,450. In terms of specifications, it sits squarely between the base RWD model and the more powerful LR AWD.
Specifications and Differences from Other Versions
The new variant maintains the single-motor rear-wheel-drive architecture, but with increased power that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. This makes it noticeably quicker than the base RWD, though slightly slower than the all-wheel-drive LR AWD.
Range is the key selling point here. The LR RWD achieves 661 km on the WLTP cycle, significantly more than the 466 km of the base model and the 600 km of the AWD version. To preserve maximum efficiency, Tesla has streamlined the options list, removing the choice of 20-inch wheels.
Features and Details
The LR RWD inherits the media system and cabin architecture recently updated for the Model Y, including a large 16-inch central display, new black headliner, and blacked-out front pillars. The audio system features nine speakers, matching the base version.
These configuration limitations are intentional, aimed at maintaining the record-breaking range, as larger wheels would significantly impact aerodynamics and energy consumption.
