Lucid Motors has announced the production of the first prototypes for its upcoming midsize model, built on a new electric platform. According to Nick Twork, the company's head of communications, these prototypes have already rolled off the production line and were assembled in the prototyping area.

While Lucid hasn't revealed specifics about the production version yet, it emphasizes that the new vehicles will retain the brand's DNA from current models like the Air sedan and Gravity crossover. The platform itself features significantly improved manufacturing technology, which is expected to lower production costs and enhance the project's economics.

The initiative, codenamed Project Midsize, will include three body styles, with no sedan among them. Analysts anticipate a starting price of around $50,000 for the future crossover—a notable drop compared to Lucid's current offerings.

The company hopes these new 2026 models will help it tap into a more mainstream market segment and move closer to profitability. Mass production is slated to begin by the end of 2026.
