Launch Vans Mercedes Sprinter camper: off-grid family adventures
Explore the Launch Vans Mercedes Sprinter camper, designed for off-grid family travel with off-road capability, sleeping for four, and self-sufficient systems. Perfect for overlanding.
American company Launch Vans has unveiled a new camper designed for family adventures, based on the all-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a short 144-inch wheelbase and high roof. The project focuses on off-grid travel and off-road capability while maintaining compact dimensions and the functionality needed for trips with children. The former cargo van has been completely transformed externally.
The camper features a reinforced CAtuned bumper with provisions for a winch, Owl Vans Mojo wheels with BFGoodrich KO3 all-terrain tires, and a Van Compass Stage 4.3 suspension system. At the rear, two Owl Vans external mounts are installed—one for a spare tire and another for extra gear—with roof access provided by a side ladder.
A Flatline Van Co. roof rack holds a Fiamma manual awning, a 200-watt solar panel, and a Maxxair ventilation fan. This setup underscores the vehicle's off-grid orientation and readiness for extended stays without external hookups.
Inside, the layout is open, with no partition separating the cab from the living area. The front seats swivel, and a convertible table is positioned between them. Additional seating is available, including one seat mounted on L-tracks that can be quickly removed to free up space. The kitchen module is minimalist yet functional, featuring a Paperstone countertop, an 80-liter Dometic refrigerator with a freezer, and a compact sink with a folding faucet.
Sleeping accommodations take center stage, with two bed platforms in the rear. The upper platform sleeps two, while the lower bed is formed from two foldable benches without needing extra panels. As a result, the camper offers proper sleeping for four while still allowing room for bulky gear like bicycles.
The power system includes 200 Ah batteries, a Victron inverter, and charging from the solar panel or shore power. The water system has a 75-liter fresh tank and a gray tank mounted underneath. This project clearly demonstrates how a compact Sprinter can become a versatile family camper without complex conversions or compromises in self-sufficiency. The thoughtful sleeping arrangement and serious off-road preparation make this format one of the most practical solutions for family overlanding.
