Updated Huawei Maextro S800 luxury sedan with increased range
Discover the updated Huawei Maextro S800 luxury sedan, featuring a refined petrol generator for extended range, impressive electric-only mileage, and advanced three-motor setup for efficiency.
Huawei continues to develop its luxury sedan, the Maextro S800, which is produced in partnership with JAC under the HIMA brand. According to Chinese regulatory data, the updated version of the model with increased range (EREV) features a refined petrol generator, while the powertrain architecture remains largely unchanged.
The key update is a new 1.5-liter range extender, the M8100PHD, whose power has increased from 125 to 127 kW. This engine operates solely as a generator, recharging the traction battery and powering the electric motors. Battery capacity is 63.26 kWh, slightly less than before, but the electric-only range remains impressive—between 258 and 315 km on the WLTC cycle, depending on the version.
The Maextro S800 still comes with either two or three electric motors. In the two-motor version, the sedan features a 160 kW front motor and a 230 kW rear motor.
The top three-motor configuration adds two independent rear motors, each rated at 237.5 kW, providing all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. The model's dimensions underscore its flagship status: length is 5480 mm, width is 2000 mm, and the wheelbase is 3370 mm. Height has been slightly reduced compared to the current version, which has improved aerodynamics.
The sedan is equipped with 20- or 21-inch wheels and has a curb weight ranging from 2700 to 2870 kg. Despite its substantial size and mass, fuel consumption in mixed mode is claimed to be between 0.10 and 0.23 liters per 100 km, highlighting the efficiency of the hybrid system.
Overall, the Maextro S800 update appears evolutionary but logical. Huawei is focusing not on chasing power figures, but on balancing comfort, range, and technology. The three-motor setup and minimal fuel consumption position the S800 as a serious competitor to traditional luxury sedans with internal combustion engines.
