BYD Datang: first flagship electric SUV with advanced features
BYD releases design sketches for its flagship SUV, the Datang, an electric model with 300 kW power, smart cabin, and premium pricing above 400,000 yuan.
BYD has officially released design sketches of its first flagship SUV, the Dynasty D-class, currently known under the codename Datang. This model will be the production version of the Dynasty-D concept and marks a new chapter in the evolution of the brand's design language.
Judging by the published materials and real prototype photos, engineers and designers have managed to preserve the show car's proportions and key design elements with minimal simplification. The production vehicle's front end features an extended lighting signature, albeit in a more restrained execution compared to the concept.
The side profile retains its substantial presence and traditional side mirrors, while the rear has been refined for aerodynamics and production requirements. Despite these changes, the overall look remains faithful to the original vision. According to certification data, the SUV measures over 5.2 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm and a curb weight exceeding three metric tons.
The Datang will be fully electric, with a maximum powertrain output of up to 300 kW. It will also feature BYD's latest driver-assistance systems and an advanced smart cabin with a large central display. Market positioning suggests a price tag above 400,000 yuan, placing it in a new premium segment for the brand.
BYD is demonstrating confidence by launching a flagship SUV without radically departing from its conceptual design. This approach signals the brand's ambition to compete not just on technology but also on prestige, a move that could significantly reshape the competitive landscape in the large electric SUV market.
