BMW's first vehicle-to-grid system for the iX3 electric SUV
BMW introduces Germany's first commercial V2G system using the 2026 iX3 electric SUV, offering grid feedback, special tariffs, and incentives for owners.
BMW has launched Germany's first commercial vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system, built around the next-generation iX3 electric SUV. The 2026 model can not only charge but also feed electricity back into the grid.
The project is a collaboration with energy company E.ON. Owners are offered a proprietary bidirectional BMW Wallbox Professional with 11 kW power, a special tariff, and a smart metering system. Once the vehicle is connected, charging and discharging happen automatically.
For every kilowatt-hour fed into the grid, the owner receives €0.40. BMW also pays a bonus of €720, equivalent to roughly 14,000 km of free driving per year. The first 100 buyers get a €700 discount on the charging station.
This technology is made possible by the sixth-generation BMW eDrive with an 800-volt architecture and a 108.7 kWh battery. The WLTP range reaches 805 km. Two electric motors produce 469 hp and 645 Nm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.9 seconds, and top speed is 210 km/h.
Sales of the BMW iX3 in Europe begin in March 2026. The model is among the new 2026 cars and is priced in Germany at €70,900.
