BMW is preparing a refresh for its flagship 7 Series. The facelift, slated for 2026, will bring both technological and mechanical changes, including a new iteration of the inline-six B58 engine.

According to insider reports, the 740 will adopt the updated B58TU3, delivering up to 400 hp—25 more than the current model—with torque rising to 542 Nm. The range will also add a 735 variant using the same engine in a 286-hp tune. On paper, that extra headroom should make the big sedan feel more effortless in everyday driving.

Visual tweaks will be restrained: the large grille and split headlight setup remain. The real shift happens inside. The new iDrive X system and the Panoramic Vision projection display will take the place of the traditional instrument cluster, stretching across the full width of the dashboard. It’s a move that puts the interface at the center of the experience rather than ornamentation.

Production of the updated 7 Series is set to begin in July 2026, covering the 735, 740, i7, and the hybrid M760e and 750e. Notably, a V8-equipped version may not reach the U.S. market before 2027.

Alpina will have its own takes as well—740 xDrive, 760 xDrive, and the electric i7 70 xDrive—with signature tuning and exclusive trim elements. Altogether, the refreshed 7 Series aims not only for more power but for a deeper technological step, aligning the flagship with the emerging Neue Klasse ethos.
