Ford has introduced a paid subscription to access the front trunk (frunk) in its Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. While the compartment is physically present in all versions of the vehicle, fully utilizing it now requires an additional payment of $495, equivalent to approximately 38,000 rubles, as reported by SPEEDME.

This option, labeled as "frunk" in the configurator, appears in the "External Options" section alongside accessories like mud flaps and protective trim. Essentially, it involves a software limitation on access to hardware that is already installed.

This approach mirrors the subscription-based model previously adopted by BMW. In 2022, the company offered features such as heated seats through monthly subscription plans.

Ford's decision may spark debate among owners because it involves unlocking functionality that is already built into the car's design, rather than adding new equipment.
