Gordon Murray, the mind behind the legendary McLaren F1, has surprised the automotive world once again. His new division, Gordon Murray Special Vehicles (GMSV), has unveiled the S1 LM supercar—a nod to Murray’s 1995 Le Mans triumph. Built on the GMA T.50 platform, it features a reworked 4.3-liter Cosworth V12 producing over 700 hp at a spine-tingling 12,100 rpm.

The curb weight is just 957 kg, making it lighter than a Mazda MX-5 yet roughly four times as powerful. Drive goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Only five cars will be made, and the first will cross the block at an RM Sotheby’s charity auction during the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The winning bidder won’t receive a finished car, but the chance to work directly with Murray on a one-off specification—an experience most collectors quietly hope for.

The buy-in is estimated at around $20 million. GMSV also invites clients to create their own models using the T.50 architecture, and the company draws a firm line against using third-party engines or platforms.

The S1 LM is that rare occasion when what’s for sale isn’t just a car but a direct brush with history. It reads less like an investment and more like a ticket to the timeless side of automotive art.
