Tata Technologies and Wittenstein High Integrity Systems (WHIS) have announced a strategic partnership. This collaboration will integrate WHIS's SAFE RTOS real-time operating system into Tata's software platform for software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

SAFE RTOS is designed as a solution with certifiable safety, reliability, and real-time performance. The integration aims to help automakers and Tier 1 suppliers meet the requirements of the ISO 26262 functional safety standard.

According to the companies, this partnership addresses the growing demand for scalable and certified software architectures capable of supporting complex SDV ecosystems. Tata notes that the automotive industry is undergoing a transformation driven by electrification, autonomous features, and the increasing importance of software.

The integration of SAFE RTOS is expected to accelerate the adoption of certified SDV architectures. These solutions are becoming foundational for developing new vehicles from 2026 onward, where software platforms play a crucial role in managing safety and performance functions.

Representatives from both WHIS and Tata emphasized that combining their expertise in automotive software and functional safety should streamline the development and market introduction of software-defined vehicles.
