China’s EV market has a new arrival: the Aion UT Super. The joint effort by GAC, battery maker CATL, and retail giant JD has emerged as the most affordable electric car in China offering this level of range.

This compact model, measuring 4.27 meters in length, pairs a 100 kW (134 hp) electric motor with an LFP battery from CATL. On a single charge, the Aion UT Super is rated for up to 500 km under the CLTC cycle—significantly farther than earlier versions of the model. Another highlight is its swappable battery: a change takes just 99 seconds at CATL’s fast-swap stations.

Inside, the cabin follows a modern hatchback template with an 8.8-inch instrument display, a 14.6-inch central screen, and Huawei Cloud with voice control. Equipment includes keyless entry, a Bluetooth key, a 540-degree camera, three drive modes, climate control, and six speakers.

Pricing ranges from 49,900 to 89,900 yuan (7,000–12,600 euros), with paint choices called Monet Purple and Champs-Elysees Beige. Built on the Aion UT 2025, the model targets the mass market by blending eye-catching design, contemporary tech, and aggressive pricing.

The editorial view is that if GAC brings the Aion UT Super to Europe, it could genuinely play the role of a people’s EV and challenge even the most budget-friendly offerings from Dacia and BYD. Judging by its spec sheet and positioning, that scenario looks entirely plausible.
