Subaru Crosstrek strong hybrid: new powertrain and specs
Learn about the upcoming Subaru Crosstrek Strong Hybrid with a 2.5-liter engine and 122 hp electric motor. Get details on specs, pricing, and launch timeline.
The Subaru Crosstrek is currently available in Australia with either a gasoline or mild-hybrid powertrain. Both versions feature a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder Boxer engine, but the gasoline models produce 156 kW/196 Nm, while the mild-hybrid variants deliver 135 hp/182 Nm.
Subaru has confirmed, however, that a hybrid system called Strong Hybrid is being developed for the Crosstrek. This system is already in use in the Forester.
Debuting in the 2025 Forester, the Strong Hybrid combines a 2.5-liter Subaru engine with 164 hp/212 Nm, an electric motor rated at 122 hp, and a 1.1 kWh battery.
The more powerful hybrid version will come at a higher price than the top-tier Crosstrek Hybrid S, which starts at $47,590 before on-road costs.
Further details about the new Subaru Crosstrek hybrid will be revealed closer to its launch.
