CSP's TCA Float: the lightest paint-ready exterior panels with no retooling
Continental Structural Plastics debuts TCA Float, the lightest paint-ready exterior automotive composite—23% lighter, cutting up to 24 kg with no retooling.
Continental Structural Plastics (CSP), the supplier behind Chevrolet Corvette body panels, has unveiled a new composite called TCA Float. With a density under 1.0 g/cm³, it stands as the lightest material on the market for paint-ready exterior automotive panels.
According to CSP, the formulation is 23% lighter than the previous TCA Ultra Lite while preserving strength, stiffness, and durability. Just as important, it can be used without changing existing production processes, making life easier for automakers.
Using TCA Float can cut around 24 kilograms from a car’s body, a meaningful reduction for performance models like the Corvette, where small savings can make a difference to overall dynamics.
CSP explains that the material’s name reflects its ability to literally float. The company positions it as a way for manufacturers to refine the aerodynamics and efficiency of 2026 sports cars while maintaining high surface quality and reliability. The proposition comes across as pragmatic: less mass, no retooling, and an outcome that fits the purpose of thoughtful lightweighting.
