Porsche has begun manufacturing its own battery modules for the new Cayenne Electric. Production is up and running at the Smart Battery Shop facility in Hórna Streda, Slovakia, which previously housed the company's technology center.

The project was developed in partnership with Porsche Werkzeugbau, with construction of the production site—spanning over 40,000 square meters—starting in 2023. The first module was completed as early as May 2024.

Each battery module is assembled from 32 individual cells, and six modules combine to form a complete high-voltage battery. The production process involves inspecting components, stacking them, laser welding, integrating them into the housing, cooling, and final testing.

The facility has implemented a quality control system with real-time data monitoring and a full digital history for every module. Batteries also undergo durability testing and assessments under extreme conditions, including high temperatures and leak tests.

Developing in-house production will allow Porsche to strengthen its control over key electric vehicle technologies. This approach lays the groundwork for new models in 2026, which are designed to deliver high performance and reliability.
