Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled the next phase of its strategy, placing a major bet on hydrogen technology. In Japan, the company launched the HTWO brand while simultaneously revealing the new generation of its NEXO crossover.

HTWO will serve as a unified platform for Hyundai's hydrogen solutions, integrating production, infrastructure, and transportation. The company plans to develop not only passenger vehicles but also commercial transport and energy technologies, building a comprehensive ecosystem.

The star of the show was the updated Hyundai NEXO—the flagship hydrogen crossover. The model features a more modern design, enhanced safety and comfort systems, and refined handling. A key innovation is the V2H function, which allows the vehicle to serve as a power source for homes—particularly valuable in regions prone to electricity disruptions.

Beyond the car, Hyundai showcased a wide range of solutions: hydrogen trucks and buses, refueling infrastructure, and new fuel cells. This demonstrates a holistic approach to developing zero-emission technologies.

Amid competition from electric vehicles, hydrogen technology remains niche. However, Hyundai aims to establish itself among the leading vehicles of the future by offering an alternative path for eco-friendly transport.

Hyundai is taking a strategically important step by developing a hydrogen ecosystem rather than focusing solely on cars. If infrastructure grows at a similar pace, hydrogen has a chance to become a full-fledged alternative to electric vehicles.
