GM is recalling 891 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 trucks to replace brake-system wiring harnesses lacking protective tape, reducing accident risk.

The absence of this protective tape poses a risk of mechanical damage to the electrical wiring integrated into the vehicle’s braking system. As a result, the likelihood of accidents and on-road emergencies increases.

To address the issue, GM’s dealer network will replace the affected brake-system wiring harnesses with new ones equipped with the required insulating tape. This brings safety back to factory standards. The remedy is refreshingly straightforward and zeroes in on the weak point—wire protection—without complicating other components.

In total, 891 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500, and 6500 trucks are included in the recall. Owners will be notified by an official letter from the manufacturer or through the messaging system of Chevrolet’s authorized representative. Clear, timely communication should help keep dealer visits brief and downtime to a minimum.
