Mitsubishi has unveiled the updated 2026 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, which delivers significantly more power and efficiency. The new model features an enlarged battery and an enhanced powertrain, making it an even more compelling choice for those considering a hybrid SUV.

The key upgrade is a 22.7 kWh battery that extends the electric-only range to 72 km. This marks a substantial improvement over the previous version, which offered around 61 km. Combined with its gasoline engine, the crossover remains a versatile solution for both city driving and longer trips. The system's power has increased to 297 horsepower, up from 248 hp, while fuel efficiency has improved to 73 MPGe. Mitsubishi has also refined the suspension and steering for better handling.

Visually, the model sports updated lighting, new wheel designs, and a redesigned front fascia. Inside, improvements include upgraded materials, more storage compartments, wireless charging, and enhanced audio systems. Additional sound insulation contributes to a quieter ride.

The Outlander PHEV stands out as a rare offering in the market, being one of the few plug-in hybrids with three rows of seating. Its starting price in the U.S. is $43,245. Mitsubishi focuses on practicality over flashy technology, a strategy that pays off—the Outlander PHEV remains one of the most versatile hybrid crossovers available.
