Volkswagen plans to bring the electric ID. Buzz minivan back to the U.S. market for the 2027 model year. Production will start in summer 2026, with first customer deliveries expected in the fall.

Previously, the company canceled sales of the 2026 version due to weak demand. In 2025, only 6,140 units were sold in the U.S., falling short of expectations. High price, limited range, and dealer markups all hurt its popularity.

Another factor was the lack of a factory camper version. Meanwhile, third-party companies already offer conversion kits with kitchens, sleeping areas, refrigerators, and other travel amenities. Volkswagen's management confirmed it is discussing a factory-built camper version. However, current information suggests such a model may not arrive until the second half of 2027, likely as a 2028 model year vehicle.

For now, Volkswagen continues to expand its electric lineup and rethink its marketing strategy. The ID. Buzz remains an important part of this effort, despite its challenging launch.
