Opel Astra GSE electric sport model details and specs
Opel Astra GSE is a fully electric sporty version with over 300 horsepower, launching by 2027. Learn about its features, performance, and Stellantis strategy.
Opel is planning to bring back a sporty version of the Astra, but in a completely new form. The upcoming Astra GSE will be fully electric and will have power exceeding 300 horsepower, preserving the spirit of the legendary OPC models. This model will become part of Stellantis's new strategy, where sportiness and electrification are combined in a single product.
Unlike previous OPC models with gasoline turbo engines, the new Astra will be fully electric. This reflects the overall industry trend where high-performance versions are switching to electric power to meet regulations and reduce emissions. At the same time, Opel aims to preserve driving emotions through chassis tuning and dynamic performance.
The Astra GSE is expected to feature a sport suspension, refined steering, and special electronic settings. Power could approach 350 horsepower, allowing it to compete with models like the CUPRA Born VZ.
Previously, the Astra was offered in a hybrid version with up to 300 horsepower, but the new project should take the model to a different level of performance.
The Astra will become the third model in the GSE lineup after the Mokka and the upcoming Corsa GSE. This way, the brand is forming a separate direction for sporty electric vehicles. The model's launch is expected no earlier than the end of 2026, with a full debut potentially taking place in 2027.
Opel is betting on electric hot hatches, bringing back iconic names in a new reality. The Astra GSE must prove that a sporty character can be preserved even without a gasoline engine.
