Volkswagen Africa hits 500,000th sixth-generation Polo milestone
Volkswagen Group Africa celebrates producing the 500,000th sixth-generation Polo at its Kariega plant, now the sole global production site for this popular hatchback exported to 38 countries.
Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) has announced the production of the 500,000th sixth-generation Polo at its Kariega plant. This model has been rolling off the assembly line there since 2021.
Since 2024, the German brand's South African facility, often called the 'home of the Polo,' has been the sole global production site for this popular hatchback. The Polo, which ranked as the seventh best-selling passenger car in South Africa in March 2026, is exported to 38 countries.
The milestone 500,000th Polo, finished in Crystal Ice Blue, is destined for export to the United Kingdom—one of the largest export markets for this locally manufactured hatchback.
Notably, by the time this car left the production line, VWGA had manufactured over two million Polos across various generations. Of these, 1,448,130 units were exported, with the remainder sold domestically.
