Tesla has refined its automatic wiper control system with innovative changes detailed in a new patent. These updates will roll out through the company's next major vehicle software update, aimed at boosting the function's accuracy and reliability.

The innovation introduces a fundamentally new approach to automatic wiper operation. The system now measures the power consumption of the wiper motors to better gauge windshield moisture levels.

This technology addresses a common complaint among Tesla owners: wipers that sometimes lack precision. Previously, the system relied solely on Tesla Vision cameras to detect precipitation and activate wipers. However, this method proved unreliable when dirt, insects, or snow obscured the camera lenses.

Now, the new feature combines camera data with physical load on the wiper motor, assessing resistance as the blades move across the glass. This allows the car to more accurately determine when wipers are needed and optimize their operation, making the cleaning process more dependable and effective.
