Pirelli Develops Two P Zero Tire Variants for the BMW iX3
Pirelli introduces two P Zero tire variants for the BMW iX3, featuring Elect technology for electric vehicles. The P Zero and P Zero E offer performance and sustainability with reduced rolling resistance and improved range.
Pirelli has developed two variants of the P Zero tire for the upcoming BMW iX3, the first model to ride on the Neue Klasse electric platform. Created in collaboration with BMW, both tires will feature a star marking on the sidewall.
The iX3 will be offered with two options: the fifth-generation P Zero and the P Zero E. Both use Pirelli's Elect technology, designed for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. This technology is intended to reduce rolling resistance, improve range, acoustic comfort, and wear resistance, while handling the high torque of electric motors.
The Pirelli P Zero is focused on handling precision, stability, and composure during hard acceleration. The company notes that its construction is tailored for the instant torque delivery of an electric drivetrain, and the compound was developed with the help of artificial intelligence.
The P Zero E emphasizes efficiency and sustainability. More than 55% of its materials come from natural and recycled sources. It achieves a triple A rating under the European tire label for rolling resistance, wet braking, and noise level.
Development took place using virtual simulation at Pirelli's center in Breuberg and BMW's simulation center in Munich. According to Pirelli, this approach cuts development time by 30% and reduces the number of physical prototypes. These tires play a key role in maximizing the efficiency of electric vehicles.
