The most divisive chapter in Mercedes-AMG’s story may be nearing its end. An internal document that surfaced online suggests the four-cylinder C63 S E Performance could leave production in May 2026. The stated reason is a tightening of Europe’s external-noise regulations, which take effect in mid-2026 and would require costly re-engineering of AMG’s high-output four-cylinder engines.

German media report that other models are also at risk. The C43 and GLC43 could disappear in February 2026, with the hybrid C63 and GLC63 potentially following at the end of spring. For the brand, this aligns with a broader shift toward high-voltage hybrids and electric performance cars—projects with outputs exceeding 900 hp are already said to be in the works.

The four-cylinder C63, which replaced the iconic V8 to meet regulations, has remained a flashpoint from day one. If it does bow out, that move would open the door to a fresh concept: rumors indicate AMG is considering a larger six-cylinder hybrid, a setup that could restore the emotion and character many felt were missing in the current car. For a model that lives on feel as much as figures, that sounds like the right kind of course correction.
