After years of silence, Smart is back in South America. No more Fortwo bubbles — only electric power, and only the new generation.

Smart is back in Argentina — and it is not tiptoeing. After years of silence, the brand has officially returned to the South American market, and this is already its 41st country worldwide. The local partner is Prestige Auto, the exclusive representative of Mercedes-Benz cars and vans in Argentina.

This is not a debut for Smart, it is a rematch. The company already worked in the country during the 2010s, but back then with tiny city runabouts. The comeback looks completely different now. No Fortwo, no two-seater capsules. Only electricity, only the new generation.

Since its 2019 reboot, Smart has existed as a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and China’s Geely. The Germans handle the design, the Chinese take care of the platform and production. A car with a double passport — and so far, the formula works.

Smart believes the timing for this return could not be better. Latin America is slowly turning toward EVs, regulation is loosening up, charging infrastructure is expanding. The brand makes a point of it: in Buenos Aires alone, hundreds of public charging points have appeared in recent years. And this, it seems, is only the beginning.

Earlier it was reported that the Smart #2 will succeed the Fortwo and launch in 2026.
