The 2026 Sportage isn't just a facelift. New trims, sharper looks, more powerful hybrids and a tech-loaded cabin — Kia clearly didn't come to play.

Kia didn’t just refresh the Sportage — the crossover has arguably received its most serious overhaul since the fifth generation launched. The 2026 model year hits the US market with reworked styling, an upgraded cabin and a broader lineup spanning petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. And it feels like only the beginning.

On the outside, the Sportage has been pulled firmly into Kia’s current design language. New bumpers, redesigned lighting, amber Star Map daytime running lights and fresh wheel options — the SUV simply looks tighter and more current.

The real story is inside. Drivers get a pair of curved 12.3-inch displays (around 31 cm), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates and a digital smartphone key. There’s also a 10-inch (roughly 25 cm) head-up display — though only on HEV and PHEV trims.

The hybrids got more serious. The Sportage HEV, with its 1.6-litre turbo and electric motor, now puts out 232 hp — a 5-hp gain over before. The plug-in PHEV adds even more: 268 hp, up by 7. The petrol version with the 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder stays at 187 hp. Towing capacity sits at around 907 kg for the hybrids and roughly 1134 kg for the petrol variants.

For the first time, the Sportage HEV gets S and X–Line trims. The X–Line goes a step further: all-wheel drive, Snow, Mud and Sand terrain modes, ground clearance of around 211 mm, 19-inch wheels and unmistakable off-road styling.

The driver-assist suite got an upgrade too. The crossover now packs the updated Highway Driving Assist 2, front, side and rear parking distance warnings, plus a hands-on-wheel monitoring system. On paper it reads dry — on the road it could change how the car feels entirely.
