Honda decided to turn a muddy detour into a real-time spectacle — and she did it with the help of TrailSport owners themselves. The company has just launched a free app called Honda Trail Experience (HTX) on the Apple App Store. It’s built for the off-road versions of the Passport TrailSport, Pilot TrailSport and CR-V TrailSport, 2026 model year.
Honda’s engineers led the development — but not alone. Off-road enthusiasts and actual TrailSport owners were dragged into the process from day one. According to the company, more than 1,500 Passport TrailSport drivers shaped the final product with their feedback. The app hooks into the vehicle through Apple CarPlay and throws up to six selectable parameters onto the dashboard screen at once. Altitude, pitch and roll, brake pressure, throttle position, speed, engine temperature, outside air temperature, steering angle, latitude and longitude — everyone picks their own combo for the trail ahead.
But the real punch is in the video recording. The app films through the iPhone’s camera and microphone and instantly overlays the route map and vehicle telemetry on top of the footage. Recording is controlled straight from the car’s screen — meaning the phone can sit clamped to the hood, strapped outside, or handed to a friend by the side of the trail. Photos? Included too.
