Renault and Software République have shown how an ordinary city hatchback can morph into a tool for running an entire metropolis. The cleveR insights concept, built on the Twingo E-Tech electric, is a car that sees, hears and feels the city in real time.
At its core sits a production EV measuring just 3.79 m. No deep modifications, no glass-case prototype. Quiet, zero-emission, nimble enough to slip into any narrow alley — exactly what you need to become an invisible witness to urban life.
On the roof sits a tech arch packed with cameras and sensors. It captures air pollution, noise levels, signs of drought, damage to road surfaces. And if that’s not enough — in comes the Apache module, co-developed with Bruitparif. It analyses tire rolling noise and literally “listens” to the asphalt beneath the wheels.
Renault emphasises that cleveR insights merges mobile and fixed data sources. The result is a living, constantly updated map of the city — for municipalities, infrastructure operators and businesses. Inside, a modular cargo bay holds whatever the mission demands: measurement gear, maintenance kits, field diagnostics.
In a world where electric cars compete on range and 0-60 times, cleveR insights breaks the mould. Its superpower isn’t speed or autonomy. It’s an EV that turns into a sensor tracking the heartbeat of an entire city.
