Lucid is finally going after the mass market. The new Cosmos crossover targets the Model Y with 300 miles of range, 3.5-second 0-60 and 800V charging — for under $50,000.

Lucid Motors is tired of watching Tesla skim the cream off the biggest slice of the EV market. The answer is Cosmos, a crossover meant to open Lucid’s door to buyers who can’t stomach the Air or the Gravity. Today the cheapest Air in Europe starts at €88,900, and the big Gravity asks for at least €102,900. Cosmos promises to be a very different story.

The first images of the newcomer surfaced in the US Patent Office database. The line art doesn’t spill every secret, but the silhouette already reads loud and clear. Cosmos will be a midsize electric SUV — noticeably smaller than the Gravity and, by design, sized to fight the Tesla Model Y head-on.

The patent sketches reveal Lucid’s signature face, a roofline sloping down from the B-pillar, and a rear spoiler that crops the upper edge of the glass. The brand’s name sits big and bold on both the nose and the tailgate — Lucid is clearly done being subtle.

In the US, Cosmos is expected to start under $50,000. For Europe, a realistic anchor sits around €55,000. But price isn’t the whole story. Lucid is promising 300 miles of range from a modest 69 kWh battery, 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds in all-wheel drive, and an 800-volt architecture that can claw back 200 miles in a 14-minute fast-charge stop. On paper, that’s a slap across the Model Y’s face from every angle.

And Cosmos isn’t flying solo. Lucid has three new models lined up on the same midsize platform. The second is called Earth. The third is Lunar, a two-seat robotaxi concept the company is already discussing with Uber. The plan is plain enough: more models, lower prices, a much wider net. Remember the name — Cosmos.
