Nobody buys a pickup truck just to watch it shed a third of its price five years later. But that’s exactly what’s happening to the 2021 Jeep Gladiator — and the numbers back it up, even if the exact percentage depends on who’s doing the math.
According to CarEdge, a typically-equipped Gladiator loses 37%: starting from a $46,890 sticker price, its five-year resale value drops to roughly $29,578. That’s over $17,000 gone in half a decade.
iSeeCars paints a gentler picture — a 32.3% drop, with 67.7% of value retained. There’s a catch, though: the midsize pickup segment average from the same source now sits at exactly 32.3% too, meaning the Gladiator depreciates right in line with its class — no better, no worse. Not a disaster, but nothing to brag about either.
Real-world listings tell a similar story. CarGurus shows more than 4,700 examples of the 2021 Gladiator on sale, with an average asking price of $31,912. One important caveat: these are seller asking prices, not completed sale amounts — actual haggling could push the number lower.
So is a five-year-old Gladiator worth buying? A meaningful chunk of the depreciation curve is already behind it, and next to a brand-new truck, a used one looks a lot more appealing. But don’t file it under “especially liquid” either: according to the source, the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger hold their value noticeably better. Before buying, it’s worth comparing more than just price — check the maintenance history, the condition of the four-wheel-drive system, the roof, and the removable body panels. Those are the parts that reveal how hard the truck was actually driven.
