Volkswagen just opened orders for the ID. Polo with a smaller 37 kWh battery — and the entry price undercuts everything else in the lineup. Here is what you actually get.

Volkswagen has finally opened the floodgates for anyone who wanted an electric car without the electric car price tag. On July 16, 2026, order books opened in Germany for the ID. Polo fitted with a smaller-capacity battery — just 37 kWh. And here is where it gets interesting: the entry-level Trend trim starts at €24,995, the manufacturer officially confirmed.

The lithium iron phosphate battery does not impress with sheer capacity, but it impresses with stamina: up to 334 km on the WLTP cycle. Front-wheel-drive versions come with 116 hp or 135 hp on tap — pick whichever suits your commute. And Volkswagen clearly did not cut corners on charging: up to 90 kW of DC power, with a 10-to-80% top-up taking just 23 minutes. Enough time for a coffee, and you are back on the road.

This is not a car built for long hauls — and it never claimed to be. The ID. Polo with the smaller battery is aimed squarely at city driving and daily commutes, joining the growing ranks of electric cars for the city. The Life and Style trims with the same battery cost more, starting at €29,195.

Even the base Trend does not feel stripped down: LED headlights, climate control, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment screen all come standard. The one thing Volkswagen is keeping under wraps is exactly when this version will start reaching dealers.
