Someone might say: it's just a gas pedal. But Japanese tuner Blitz just proved otherwise — it has expanded compatibility for its electronic throttle controller Sma Thro X, adding thirteen new models in one go. As of July 17, the device is available for the Lexus IS 300h, Toyota Crown Estate and Land Cruiser FJ, Nissan Serena e-Power and Honda CR-V.
The list also includes the Suzuki Every, Every Wagon, Jimny Sierra and Xbee, Mazda's Scrum vans, and their siblings — the Mitsubishi Town Box and Minicab Van. But don't celebrate too fast if you own one of these: not every car wearing these names qualifies. What matters is the model code, the powertrain and the production date. For the Serena e-Power, for instance, only the GC28, GFC28, SNC28 and SFNC28 body codes are listed — and only from February 2026 onward.
So what does Sma Thro X actually do? It rewrites the relationship between how hard you press the pedal and how the electronic throttle reacts. Drivers get eight fixed-ratio modes to choose from, plus two automatic ones. Power output doesn't change by a single horsepower — the engine's maximum output stays exactly the same. What changes is purely how sharp or smooth the response feels.
Installation is simple: the kit plugs straight into the factory sensor connector, with no separate wiring to a 12-volt power source needed. Some vehicles get an adapter that lets the switch sit in an unused factory blank on the dashboard — leaving almost no trace of an aftermarket install. But Blitz warns buyers to check not just adapter compatibility before purchase, but also whether a free blank panel actually exists in the cabin. Otherwise, the switch will have nowhere to go.
And now, the part that matters most: every new kit costs 24,200 yen with tax. An optional reverse-cancel wire can automatically restore the factory pedal setting whenever reverse gear is engaged. Don't want to buy that wire? Sma Thro X can also be set to switch itself off every time the engine starts — a workaround that works just as well.
