Toyota, it seems, has finally listened to the mud-and-ruts crowd. The full-size Tundra pickup for the 2027 model year gets a new off-road package called Trailhunter — and for the first time, it’s available on the base SR5 trim. Launch timing and pricing are still under wraps.
So what’s in the package? Michelin LTX Trail tires sized 265/70R18, bronze wheels, an Old Man Emu suspension, front tow hooks — for when the trail decides to fight back — and beefed-up skid plates. Add a locking rear differential, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select drive modes. That’s a serious kit for a truck that used to be known more as a work mule than a trail conqueror.
But the changes don’t stop at one package. Every Tundra trim now comes standard with a 14-inch touchscreen running an updated infotainment system, 5G connectivity, a voice assistant, and a built-in dash cam that saves 20-second clips. This isn’t an option anymore — it’s the baseline. Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 is now standard as well.
The engines, though, are staying put. The twin-turbo V6 and the hybrid setup built on it both carry over — though hybrid versions add a 2.4-kW inverter on top. Toyota says more details are coming this fall 2026. The wait shouldn’t be too much longer.
