Replacing the popular MG ZS on the European market, the MG S5 EV has already drawn attention: real-world road tests suggest that, for efficiency, it trails only the Tesla Model Y. Built on the MSP platform, it is offered with 49 or 64 kWh batteries and outputs of 170 or 231 hp, with an official WLTP range of up to 480 km. In Spain, prices start at €31,490.

The French outlet Automobile Propre conducted one of the first comprehensive tests of the 64 kWh version. The results impress: in a mixed cycle, the SUV used 15.5 kWh per 100 km and achieved a real-world range of about 401 km—just 12% below the claim. At steady speeds, the figures remain strong:

MG S5 EV

  • at 70 km/h — 11.6 kWh and 537 km;
  • at 110 km/h — 18 kWh and 346 km;
  • at 130 km/h — 22.8 kWh and 273 km.

In Eco mode, testers even managed 9.5 kWh per 100 km, which theoretically translates to as much as 650 km under favorable conditions. There’s comfortable braking even without a mechanical connection, three levels of regeneration, and a notably quiet cabin. The only drawback is a 453-liter boot, which lags behind key rivals.

All told, the MG S5 EV makes a strong case as one of the most economical electric crossovers in Europe.
