Almost 1,500 crossovers left the Chinese port of Wuhu — and they're headed for six European countries at once. Lepas, Chery Group's new brand, has shipped its first genuinely large batch of L8 PHEV hybrids: Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania will all receive cars simultaneously.
The five-seat Lepas L8 is built on the Intelligent LEX platform and runs on the plug-in Lepas Super Hybrid system. The numbers being claimed are serious: a combined range of over 1,300 km, and consumption from 2.38 L/100 km.
There's something telling about the timing: not long ago, Lepas was just a name at European unveilings. Now it's shipping in volume. As we reported earlier, the Lepas L8 was priced in Italy from €41,700 — cheaper than you'd expect from a “premium” SUV. Add to that 279 hp and up to 90 km of pure electric range.
Exactly when the cars will reach dealers in each of the six countries, the company isn't saying yet.
